Compared to typical pre-health medical shadowing, Atlantis shadowing has greater (1)depth, (2)breadth, (3)quantity, and (4) intercultural perspective. Reason to do it # 2: Most students don’t prioritize their GPA enough. Doing Atlantis over break accomplishes so much extracurricular-wise that you can cut other activities during the year.I wouldn't do more shadowing if I were him. Instead, I'd volunteer in a clinical setting. He's right that shadowing gets repetitive and 25 hours is good enough to check that box. You don't need research to get into med school. His time is better spent either studying for the MCAT or getting some more clinical hours.
